MAVERICK GET EMOTIONAL FOR PLAYSTATION 2
MAVERICK Media Director Seamus Masterson was set the task of redefining the conventional view of videogames in his latest project for PlayStation 2.
The film heralds the dawn of a new era, and poses some intriguing thoughts about where PlayStation 2 may be heading in the future, with the tantalising idea that emotion may one day play a major role in peoples enjoyment of the console.
Masterson said: “PlayStation have developed a special chip called the ‘emotion engine’. This means that the on-screen characters will be able to show emotions and become more lifelike, and this will be more enjoyable for the users.”
Masterson’s film ‘When’ is a simple but powerful piece showing differing peoples’ diverse responses to a question that the audience never actually hears. The results are said to be bizarre, funny, and some cases genuinely moving.
Masterson continued: “I wanted to make a little film about a big thing. I was a little unprepared for the range and honesty of people’s responses, and the process of making the film became quite hard because of that. But in a strange way I actually felt very privileged.”
The film is approximately two minutes long and it is understood that the film is being considered for cinema screenings. (CD)
