SEMINAR ON COMMUNICATIONS REFORM
THE ITC and Public Voice, a new voluntary sector campaign established to secure regulation in the public interest, are holding a joint seminar, ‘Communications Reform for All,’ on January 16.
The seminar, chaired by Jon Snow, will give the voluntary sector and other interested parties a chance to widen involvement in the debate on communications reform following the publication of the Communications White Paper which proposes the most far-reaching regulatory reform of broadcasting for over a decade.
Patricia Hodgson, ITC Chief Executive, said: “Whilst the key players in the communications sector have commented widely on the issues addressed in the White Paper, perhaps not enough has been heard from citizens and consumers.”
The ITC have come together with Public Voice to highlight the concerns and present findings from a programme of research and consultation amongst viewers, including children, and other opinion formers, and from open meetings around the UK. This research and consultation process was carried out last year to determine viewers attitudes to public service broadcasting, and which elements are particularly valued.
The seminar, organised in association with The Media Trust will feature addresses by Public Voice Chair, Christine Kent, and Patricia Hodgson on behalf of the ITC. There will be a panel debate with Paddy Coulter and Sarah Thane, plus a representative from the voluntary sector.
A limited number of tickets for the January 16 seminar at the Royal Society of Arts at 10.30am are still available. For more details contact Robin Blake at the ITC on tel: (020) 7306 7724. (CD)
