SMITH APPOINTS BSC MEMBER
Culture Secretary Chris Smith has appointed the Reverend Richard Holloway as the most recent member of the Broadcasting Standards Commission (BSC).
Bishop of Edinburgh between 1986 and 2000, Holloway was elected Primus, Scottish Episcopal Church in 1992 and has spent most of his career associated with the church. He has also held a number of high-profile positions that include the Chair of the BMA Steering Group on Ethics and Genetics, and is currently a Trustee of the Waverley Care Trust.
A reviewer and writer for the Guardian, Scotsman, Herald, Times, and Independent, Holloway is also a frequent presenter on radio and television and is the author of a number of books. Holloway does not hold any other public appointments and has not carried out any political activity in the last five years.
The remuneration for members is £15,830 per annum for a nominal two days per week. (CD)
