New Scottish feature to premiere at Glasgow convention

Pure Magic Films has announced that their new fantasy-themed comedy film 'gamerZ' will premiere in Glasgow on the opening night of the 63rd World Science Fiction Convention.
Traditionally known as Worldcon, this is the most prestigious international cultural festival devoted to science fiction and fantasy. The event, which takes place in a different international city each year, attracts thousands of sci-fi and fantasy fans from all over the world and is home to the top prize in literary science fiction, the Hugo Awards.
“It’s a tremendous honour to be part of Worldcon”, said writer-director Robbie Fraser. “Our film is a warm, offbeat romance set in a world of strange young fantasy-heads. It’s definitely a Scottish story but we very much hope it will have instant appeal to the global science fiction and fantasy community. I am very excited that gamerZ will receive its first outing among friends.”
Producer Paul Gavin added: “We are incredibly excited that the World Science Fiction Convention is being held in Scotland this year. It allows us to premiere at a world-class event, in the film’s home town of Glasgow to a cross-section of our international audience.”
Worldcon co-chairman Colin Harris said: “Gaming is just as much a part of the science fiction and fantasy genres as books, television and movies. “We are delighted and honoured that Pure Magic Films has chosen Worldcon to premiere this film. It is particularly appropriate given that gamerZ is set in Scotland and was filmed in the same year the World Science Fiction Convention returns to Glasgow.”
gamerZ is co-financed by Scottish Screen and SMG under the New Found Films scheme.
