JVC PROJECT FINAL IMAGES AT NOTTINGHAM’S ODEON
A UNIQUE 8mm film was projected onto the screens of the Nottingham Odeon Cinema, using a JVC DLA-M4000L video/data projector, to mark the cinema’s last ever night.
Bill Freeman, Managing Director of JVC’s distributors, Nottingham Audio Visual, filmed Cinema of the 70’s using a Bolex standard 8mm camera in 1965, when Nottingham Odeon became the first twin screen cinema of its kind in the UK.
At the end of January this year, the cinema closed its doors for the very last time after 68 years and Bill Freeman was asked to show this rare footage on the final night.
Odeon Manager, Gordon Roebuck, said: "Bill Freeman invited me to go and view this 13 minute film that he had recorded. I was so impressed with this 8mm film I asked Bill if we could screen it on the final night at the cinema."
The video facilities department at Nottingham Audio Visual made a telecine transfer of the film on to a JVC D-9 tape. The content was then loaded into a Media 100 digital editing facility, re-edited, and finally re-mastered.
Equipment hire technicians at Nottingham Audio Visual then installed a JVC DLA-M4000L video/data projector in the main projection box at the cinema. A vario lens up to 7:1 was used in order to fill the screen, which had a 21ft. drop. (CD)
