DISCREET'S ROLE IN OSCAR NOMINATED FILMS

DISCREET, leaders in digital content creation, management, and distribution tools, have announced that their powerful effects software systems played a key role in the special effects generation for all of the films nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in the Visual Effects category.
Visual effects teams that worked on ‘Gladiator’, ‘Hollow Man’ and ‘The Perfect Storm’ relied on Discreet's high end digital systems and software to recreate fallen empires, make humans vanish before audiences' eyes and generate the spectacular imagery that thrilled moviegoers around the world.
Whether it's embellishing the gory details of a pitched battle at the northern extremes of the ‘Roman Empire’, watching Kevin Bacon morph layer by layer into invisibility in the ‘Hollow Man’, or sensing the subtle alterations in sea and sky that gave ‘The Perfect Storm’ feelings of exhilaration and foreboding-Discreet's special effects products played a pivotal role.
Paul Lypaczweski, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Discreet, said: “We're in the business to bring special effects alive and make the visually impossible-possible; where nobody, outside of a small group of creative specialists, knows that our technology is there. But every year on Oscar Night, industry visual effects artists get the recognition they so richly deserve.
This year, Discreet are proud to have contributed to the three films the Academy nominated for the visual effects Oscar. So as our customers take their bow and receive their Oscar statuette, Discreet will continue delivering the technology that powers dreams and helps great artists tell their stories.”
Discreet received the Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in 1999 for inferno and flame, their resolution-independent visual effects compositing and finishing systems. (CD)
