AN EVENING WITH MCGOVERN AT THE CFTF
JIMMY McGovern renowned writer of ground breaking programmes will be joining the Celtic Film and Television Festival (CFTF) to celebrate the ‘Frank Copplestone Evening’ and the festivals first Frank Copplestone First Time Directors award on March 29 in Truro, Cornwall.
‘An Evening with Jimmy McGovern’ will be a fascinating insight into the life of the man himself, as he will talk about writing, film, television, life and Liverpool in his own imitable style. The programmes he has written include ‘Cracker’, ‘The Lakes’, ‘Dockers’, ‘Hillsborough’ and the recent script adaptation of Stephen Frears new film ‘Liam’.
There will also be three special gala screenings, of new, exciting and very diverse films by Celtic filmmakers: ‘About Adam’, ‘Very Annie Mary’ and ‘One of the Hollywood Ten’.
The festival has a strong history of exciting public events and celebrating the best Celtic production and talent, bringing this to all corners of the Celtic countries and ultimately to a wider audience.
The Frank Copplestone Trust was set up in 1997 to commemorate Cornish born Frank Copplestones’ massive contribution to Cornwall and broadcasting. There is a permanent award in his name presented at the Festival to recognise the best emergent and creative talent.
Now in its 22nd year the CFTF has come along way from its first outing in a small hall in the Hebrides. It continues to exist to promote the best Celtic film, television, radio and new media and bring this to a wider audience.
Each year the event takes place in a different location moving between Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany and attracting over 400 industry delegates with public and student events.
Increasing there have also been screenings and other activities throughout the year and the CFTF has been attracting greater interest from beyond the Celtic countries and the US. (CD)
