MCGOVERN TO SPEAK AT CELTIC FILM & TV FESTIVAL

RENOWNED writer Jimmy McGovern will be joining the Celtic Film and Television Festival (CFTF) to celebrate the Frank Copplestone Evening and the Frank Copplestone First Time Directors award on March 29 in Truro, Cornwall.
‘An Evening with Jimmy McGovern’ will be a fascinating insight into the life of the man himself, as he’ll talk about writing, film, television, life and Liverpool in his own inimitable style. McGovern has penned such groundbreaking programmes as ‘Cracker’, ‘The Lakes’, ‘Dockers’, ‘Hillsborough’ and the recent script adaptation of Stephen Frears new film ‘Liam’.
This is just one of a number of public events that the Festival will be bringing to Truro between March 28 – 31. There will also be three special gala screenings, of new, exciting and very diverse films by Celtic filmmakers; ‘About Adam’, ‘Very Annie Mary’ (after an ‘Evening with Jimmy McGovern’) and ‘One of the Hollywood Ten’.
The Festival has a strong history of exciting public events and celebrating the best Celtic production and talent, bringing this to all corners of the Celtic countries and ultimately to a wider audience.
Now in their twenty-second year the Festival has come a long way from their first outing in a small hall in the Hebrides. It continues to promote the best in Celtic film, television, radio and new media, bringing these to a wider audience.
Each year the event takes place in a different location moving between Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany and has regularly attracted over 400 industry delegates to attend the public and student events.
The organisers say that with screenings and other activities throughout the year, the CFTF has been attracting greater interest from beyond the Celtic countries and as far afield as the US. (AMcE)
