Subtle sound shows blue’s light touch on ‘My Best Friend…’
Full-service post-production facility ‘blue’ recently completed the audio post-production on BBC 2’s ‘My Best Friend…’
Each 30-minute episode in the five-part series focuses on a different icon, starting with Audrey Hepburn and followed by Mick Jagger, Muhammad Ali, Steve McQueen and Che Guevara. Each film is an intimate and affectionate portrait by a close friend or relative including Sean Hepburn Ferrer’s recollections of his mother Audrey and Bud Ekins memories of his biker buddy Steve McQueen.
blue was brought on board to do the audio post for the series following a recommendation to Director and Series Producer Clare Lewins of Fisheye Films. Dubbing mixer Matt Skilton, added subtle nuances to each audio track using sound effects that enhance the images on screen.
“It was great to work on such a varied project and also one that has such a positive feel throughout,” said Skilton. “I liked the Audrey Hepburn film in particular; the interview with her son, in which he reveals that his mother is his best friend, is very touching. This was a very upbeat piece and the finished films looked great.”
Although blue has worked on a number of projects for Fisheye Films in the past, this is the first sound job that it has done for the production company.
“I was really impressed with the job and in particular with Matt. He added effects that I would never have thought of and as a result the audio brings a whole added dimension to each programme,” said Lewins. “The production team at blue are extremely efficient and organised too, an absolute pleasure to work with.”
My Best Friend … will air on BBC 2 from Tuesday 3 May at 3pm.
Launched in 1995 broadcast post specialist blue has become synonymous with top end broadcast post-production – from short-form titles sequences, idents, commercials and trailers to long-form television programming such as documentaries, dramas and factual series.
