TTV chooses SysMedia technology
SysMedia, a leading specialist in subtitling solutions and content management and production systems for interactive TV and teletext, has announced that its Plasma Magenta interactive TV content management and production system has been selected by Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV) as a core part of its interactive DVB-MHP solution.
The SysMedia technology forms part of an overall package supplied by Zentek Technology Singapore, SysMedia's newly appointed dealer for interactive products and services in Taiwan, Brunei and Japan.
The DVB-MHP system for TTV is an end-to-end content development, carousel generation and playout system for the broadcast of enhanced and interactive television applications. The MHP output of SysMedia's Plasma Magenta system uses the JAME MHP Application Framework and is integrated with the TSBroadcaster and TSPlayer carousel generation and playout system from Strategy and Technology.
Taiwan terrestrial broadcasters have adopted DVB-MHP as the transmission standard for terrestrial broadcasts. All five terrestrial broadcasters began broadcasting digital television programmes in July 2004. To accelerate its push for DVB-MHP, the Taiwan government has provided financial aid to some terrestrial broadcasters to establish the necessary systems, including to TTV, which is the oldest terrestrial broadcaster in Taiwan. As the next step forward to offer value-added services to television viewers, TTV will launch a trial to deliver enhanced and interactive digital television applications based on the DVB-MHP standard.
Mr Kazuo Yoshimura, MD of Zentek, said: "Content and applications provide the key catalyst for growth of the interactive digital television market. We are committed to work closely with TTV to launch various enhanced and interactive digital television applications, as well as accelerate the development of new applications by content providers and software companies in Taiwan. Our footprint in Taiwan marks the beginning of our plans to penetrate other Chinese-speaking markets in the region."
Colin Prior, Business Development Director with SysMedia, added: "The use of our Plasma Magenta technology and the JAME MHP Application Framework for this project is a clear vindication of the strength and flexibility of our MHP strategy and technological solutions. We will be working closely with Zentek to support TTV and other Asian customers as the deployment of interactive TV services accelerates in this region."
