Sumners invest in ‘da vinci 2K’ based HD Grading Suite
Manchester-based post production facility, Sumners, have completed their latest expansion by adding a grading suite based around the 2K plus grading system from da vinci.
This completes the £ 500,000+ investment in the finishing area.
The new grading area will be run by Senior Colourist Jamie Parry and is the first 2K Plus system to be installed in the UK outside the M25. It will be used for SD and HD work across a broad range of TV and Film projects.
“Sumners’ reputation has been built on offering all our clients solutions that are at the forefront of technology,” explained Managing Director, Andy Sumner. “We have shown our commitment by future proofing the kit and acquiring the talent to drive it.”
Brian Hardman, General Manager, continued: “We believe 2005 will see HD become reality for mainstream Drama and Documentary and this takes ‘finishing’ to a new level. We have evaluated a wide range of grading solutions and we kept coming back to the ‘Rolls Royce option’. For sheer quality of performance and real time grading that clients now expect the da vinci 2K is the market leader”.
Sumners recruited Jamie Parry in the new year from Granada where he earned his reputation working on projects as diverse as Forsyte Saga, Von Trapped!, Clocking Off, Phoenix Nights and Son of God. Jamie adds, “In the marketplace today there are many boxes that can do everything, but in my experience what directors and DOP’s want is real time grading and that is what we can offer”.
Sumners new finishing area also includes Symphony & Adrenaline online areas, Avid DS Nitris and ProTools ICON audio suites. It will be utilised by Sumners’ regular clients, including BBC Manchester, YTV and large independent producers.
