AKA Helps Molinare With London's Largest Grading Suite

When Scott Holmgren, Technical Director of Molinare, issued AKA Design with the brief for the new grading suite two things were instantly apparent, it had to look fabulous and it was going to be a technically challenging design and build process.
The required flexibility of various viewing positions meant that we would need to 'lose' the monitors when the suite was being used as a viewing theatre. The solution was that the five main display monitors were mounted on independent actuators which were individually pre-programmed allowing the screens to disappear into the under-desk void whilst not in use.
The layout of the 5 metre desk was dictated by the interior space but the real design work was done in the detailing. The use of leather inlays in the veneered walnut desktops and the Molinare logo embossed front screen gave the desk an elegant look and mirrored the style of the suite itself.
AKA Design were also asked to undertake approximately 40ft of the banquette seating that sweeps elegantly around the rear of the studio. The fluted back and stitch detail seating was upholstered in a Yarwood leather which was the same used on the embossed section of the front desk.
"The technical challenge of this desk design and build has been an interesting one due to the requirement to make the monitors 'disappear' when the desks use changes. The outcome has not only been a technical success but also complimented the overall elegant feel of the suite", commented Alistair Davies, Director at AKA Design.
