Telecinco opts for Zandar MultiViewers

To help meet the challenges of multi-camera monitoring, Estudios Picasso, the production arm of Telecinco, Spain's leading national commercial television broadcaster, has adopted Zandar MultiViewers for its sitcom production studios.
The technical engineers at Estudios Picasso came up with an imaginative way for using MultiViewers to simultaneously monitor cameras and programme output. Until recently, the Production Director was unable to see the different camera shots from the studio floor without looking into each camera, which was often impractical and restricted the creativity associated with the spontaneity of sitcoms.
With the Zandar DX MultiViewers, the Director can now sit in front of a monitor on the studio floor and simultaneously see the output of three key cameras as well as the programme output of the mixer. The DX units output a quad split type display to a 21" high quality monitor, with each quadrant displaying the key images from around the studio floor. This allows the Director to instantaneously see and take advantage of spontaneous reactions from the acting talent, increasing the product values of the programmes.
Having evaluated the products and undertaken extensive testing, Telecinco found the picture quality was particularly good for both composite and SDI signals and installed four DX Series MultiViewers. Since the studios are using legacy analogue equipment as well as digital video signal paths, the auto detect feature has been particularly useful, alleviating the need for, and cost of, external signal converters as well as providing more flexibility. They have also found an additional benefit to using a multi image display as they are now able to check the colourimetry of the cameras more easily and at studio floor, rather than having to go via a studio gallery.
The DX Series MultiViewers are the most success MultiViewers in the broadcast market, with over 1000 units installed worldwide. They have been adopted by major multi-channel television stations, reducing capital expenditure costs and providing more flexibility for high density picture monitoring.
