High Point secures raft of new distribution deals
At the Berlin Film Festival High Point Films has closed a distribution deal with Luis Bellaba of Spain’s Festival Films for the late Theo van Gogh’s hip-hop fuelled 'gangsta' drama, ‘Cool’.
The film will premiere at a homage to van Gogh at the Las Palmas International Film Festival in March, prior to rolling out into Spanish cinemas.
High Point has also closed deals for Mark Pirro’s outrageous sci-fi spoof ‘Rectuma’ with Japan’s New Select Co, YES-DBS (Israel) and Imagine Entertainment (Australia). This spoof of the Japanese monster movies stars stand up comedian Bill Devlin as the hapless Wally, who is stalked by a murderous wife, hounded by police for murder and terrorised by the thought that his ass has become a giant city destroying monster.
Meanwhile principal photography has begun on High Point’s ‘Bound Memories’, which stars 'Barbarian Invasions’ Marie-Josée Crozee and 2005 César Best Supporting Actress nominee Julie Depardieu as sisters, estranged by a traumatic childhood memory, who are reunited at the bedside of their ill mother where they are forced to consider euthanasia as a means of ending her suffering.
The Swiss production (Switzerland is one of the rare countries that has legalised euthanasia) is being produced by Gilles Roulin of Olympia Films and is the directorial debut for Pilar Anguita-Mackay. Delivery is scheduled for AFM in November.
Popular Polish director Juliuz Machulski has signed High Point Films to launch his latest crime comedy ‘Vinci’ at the European Film Market. ‘Vinci’ was the second highest grossing non-US film at Polish cinemas in 2004 and was also recipient of the Best Screenplay Award at last years Polish Film Festival. The film centres around the heist of da Vinci painting from one of Krakow’s national museum.
