BBC FAVOUR SOUNDFIELD SURROUND

BBC Bristol have purchased the SoundField MKV System to add to the BBC’s growing collection of SoundField Microphone Systems.
The MKV is used for outside broadcast work and internally at the drama studio.
Colin Rae, Sound Supervisor at BBC Bristol, said: “It was the introduction of the SP451 Surround Processor that really clinched it for us. We record the four B-Format outputs onto our Sadie DAW for later de-coding into surround, and at the same time take the MKV stereo outputs for use as our main stereo pair.”
The MKV has already been used to record six consecutive concerts at the St. George’s Hall, Bristol, which featured everything from classical string quartets to Nigerian ‘mbiri’ players. Most recently it was employed as the main stereo microphone for BBC Radio 2’s Sunday Easter Special broadcast from Wells Cathedral in Somerset where it covered the large choir and brass ensemble.
Other recent MKV/SP451 broadcast purchasers are BBC Pebble Mill and Singapore Broadcast Company. (CD)
