SONY BPE SET TO SHAPE THE FUTURE

SONY Broadcast & Professional Europe (Sony BPE) will present their latest technological innovations in digital and broadcast technology at NAB.
The company will also be highlighting their continuing work to provide tailor-made solutions for broadcasters such as the BBC’s ‘Broadcast Extranet.’
Sony BPE will reveal further details of the successful first-stage implementation of the ‘Broadcast Extranet’ for the BBC. The Extranet provides a personalised environment for the BBC where they can obtain information, make contact with Sony BPE, or use features designed exclusively for them.
Sony are to showcase the new MPEG IMX Camcorder and XPRI editing system at NAB.
The new MPEG IMX Camcorder is capable of recording on MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML data stream at 50Mbps (intra-frame). The new camcorder is widescreen switchable and features the latest developments in CCDs and 12-bit digital signal processing technology.
The XPRI is the first of a new family of powerful editing platforms. XPRI comprises two models: A standard definition editor and a fully featured high-definition editor capable of working in either compressed or uncompressed modes. Currently in European Beta test, the end user feedback on XPRI is said to be very positive.
Miles Flint, President of Sony BPE said Sony BPE was shaping their organisation to deliver the types of services that are essential. He said an example of this was the BBC Broadcast Extranet: “This type of electronic site creates the opportunity for a new type of ‘knowledge exchange’ between Sony BPE and our customers, partners and a whole range of other communities such as our dealers. This dialogue helps us to understand their evolving needs more thoroughly, and in the long term serve them better.”
As markets across Europe continue to embrace convergent technologies, interoperability remains of paramount importance, and Sony BPE is to contribute to the debate through its AnycastWorld initiative.
