Welsh success on prestigious Celtic awards shortlist

More than 20 Welsh production companies have made the shortlist for the Celtic Film and TV Festival awards, announced recently
The 17 awards, which celebrate the best moving image production in Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany, will be presented during the Celtic Film and TV Festival, due to be held in Cardiff this year from April 6-9.
A total of 23 Welsh production companies have been shortlisted for all but two of the award categories, which range from animation and arts documentary to programmes for young people.
“The Celtic Film and TV Festival is a unique opportunity for those working in film, TV, radio and new media to congregate to discuss recent developments in a fast-paced and constantly changing media industry and to take a step back and celebrate the achievements of the past year,” said Hannah Raybould, Producer of the Festival.
“We are really pleased that the number of submissions for this Festival is the highest in five years, and that such a range of high quality programmes have been selected to take part in the international competition.”
The Jury Chair for the Celtic Festival, which will be held at the Holland House Hotel, is Rev John Stewart Roberts who has a distinguished career in broadcasting in Wales. He will be joined on the jury by industry representatives from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Cornwall. The Welsh juror is actress Sue Jones Davies.
The Celtic Film and TV Festival, which is now firmly established and in its 26th year, is supported by Cardiff Council and the Millennium Commission as one of the flagship events for the Cardiff 2005 celebrations. The event is also supported by S4C, BBC Wales, ITV Wales, Sgrîn Cymru Wales, TAC, Skillset and the Wales Screen Commission and is coordinated by Sgrîn Cymru Wales.
