C5 REVEAL DETAILS OF ELECTION COVERAGE

CHANNEL 5 have revealed details of their hour-long show ‘5 News and Talk’ during the election campaign, which gives viewers a chance to have their say on the news each evening.
The innovative extended news programme will start at 5.30pm daily, incorporating news from ITN's ‘5 News’ and debate from Anglia's ‘The Wright Stuff’ team.
News anchor Charlie Stayt will be joined by husband and wife team James and Lucy O'Brien while Jerry Springer will provide political commentaries at the height of the election. The former mayor of Cincinnati will investigate the major issues as they develop, comparing British and American attitudes to the electoral process.
O'Brien and his wife will head up the second part of the show, discussing the days political issues with viewers and a studio audience and offering advice to voters on the day's spin and differing political agendas.
Senior Programme Controller, Chris Shaw, said: "Securing Jerry Springer will give ‘5 News and Talk’ a unique viewpoint as events unfold. We have always tried to make our news on Channel 5 as accessible and inclusive as possible and this format allows viewers not only to watch the latest news but to take part in it as well."
Viewers will be able to email, fax and phone their questions and opinions as well as vote on the evening's discussion points.
O'Brien said: "The show will be like a living opinion poll, gauging public feeling about all the election issues and airing voters' feelings about new developments as they actually happen.
‘The Wright Stuff’ editor Jez Wright believes the relationship of the presenters is the key: "It will give people a flavour of the political sparring matches that will be taking place over the kitchen table and the sitting rooms in households up and down the country. Ultimately this is the only battleground that counts! A real couple with real issues."
‘5 News’ presenter Charlie Stayt will provide viewers with something a little different from rival broadcasters forthcoming election news presentation. ‘5 News’ will be cutting through the political waffle to tell viewers - the voters - how the politicians plan to change their lives.
Channel 5 will carry live interviews with all the key political movers and shakers and they will also have a special series of the ‘First on Five’ strand which will include a feature on 'Leaders' Wives'. (CD)
