YTV COMMISSIONED FOR STARMAKER
YORKSHIRE Television have been commissioned by ITV2 to make one of the biggest talent shows to be screened on British television.
From September 2001 ‘Starmaker’ will follow the fates of thousands of star struck hopefuls with a guarantee from the show’s executive producer, YTV’s Head of Entertainment Jim Brown, to find at least one major new star of the future.
Over fourteen weeks and fifty-two hours of television a celebrity panel will unearth hidden talent of all descriptions ranging from budding new Robbie’s or Geri’s to those who ought to have stayed at home, auditioning at 30 locations across the country.
‘Starmaker’s’ executive producer Jim Brown says: “As well as the biggest entertainment event to be screened on British television ‘Starmaker’ is one of ITV2’s largest commissions to date. We will audition in the region of 14,000 acts. I’ve sat through so many unbelievable auditions over the years and can guarantee that this will make compulsive viewing.”
‘Starmaker’ will re-echo the themes of the immensely popular ‘Popstars’ - showing the auditions with raw talent in action and decisions by the panel who announce who has what it takes and who doesn’t.
From each location seven lucky contestants will feature in their own Saturday night Entertainment Show with the chance to compete for a place in ‘Starmaker’s’ live finale in the New Year.
Joan Lofts, ITV2’s Head of Broadcasting, says: “This is one of ITV2’s most ambitious commissions and we’re looking forward to this exciting series which could discover the next big entertainment star of the 21st century.” (AMcE)
