WINNERS OF BAFTA CYMRU AWARDS ANNOUNCED
THE winners of the BAFTA Cymru Awards, which took place recently at St David's Hall in Cardiff, have been announced.
Journalist, writer and broadcaster, Trevor Fishlock scooped the top prize at the BAFTA Cymru Awards 2000 for his HTV Series ‘Fishlock’s Wild Tracks’.
Fishlock, who’ll soon be filming his seventh series with producer Wil Aaron, was voted ‘Best On-Screen Presenter’ at the awards ceremony at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff. The award was made for a programme entitled ‘The Valley of the Lugg’ filmed around Presteigne in Radnorshire.
For the second year running, Swansea-born comedian John Sparkes won a major BAFTA Cymru Award – that of ‘Best Light Entertainment’.
The award went to Sparkes and producer Pete Baikie for ‘Hugh Pugh Presents – The Fishguard Film Festival’ – a send-up of the Oscars ceremony in Hollywood. Sparkes appears as intrepid newshound Hugh Pugh as, astonishingly, the glitterati of the Sixties descend on present-day Fishguard.
HTV’s detective thriller ‘A Mind to Kill’, starring Philip Madoc as Chief Inspector Noel Bain won 'Best Sound' for the team from Sounds in Motion.
And HTV’s coverage of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, ‘Llangollen 2000’ won the ‘Best Lighting Director – Not Camera’ for Martin Rodgers.
HTV Wales’ Controller and Director of Programmes, Elis Owen, said: "I congratulate all our winners. The awards underline the high quality and popularity of our programmes."
Established in 1987, BAFTA Cymru are constantly finding new ways to improve and update their services, and actively expresses the concerns and opinions of its members at a time of rapid change in Wales.
A membership-led organisation, BAFTA Cymru are dedicated to bringing together people from all parts of the media industry to debate, network, and explore relevant and topical issues and help improve standards through training, workshops and screenings.
