Welsh Student Film Wins At Bafta Cymru Awards

News Image
A performing arts student at the University of Wales, Newport is celebrating her first major acting success after playing one of the leading roles in a film made by students at the International Film School Wales (IFSW) which scooped one of the top prizes at the Bafta Cymru Awards on April 28.
Liz Barnett played a grief-stricken mother who builds a shrine to her dead son in ‘Mummy’s Boy’, which won the best short film award at Bafta Cymru. The film was made by IFSW students Oskari Korenius, Nick Davies, Steve Jones, Josh Cowdry and Joe Naftalin along with Ed Casey, a graduate of the University of Glamorgan. The film was the first co-production produced with funding and support from the Skillset Screen Academy Wales, which brought the students from IFSW together with the University of Glamorgan.
Liz has also landed an important role in legendary film-maker Ken Russell’s new Film ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’.
"The course has been invaluable in helping me perfect my acting skills. As well as studying acting for stage and radio, we have the advantage of working with film and video students," commented Liz.
