France 3 streamlines workflow with Thomson

Thomson has announced that France 3, a major French broadcaster located in Brittany, has upgraded its news production facilities with fully networked Grass Valley brand digital news production solutions (DNPS).
The France 3 Nantes Regional Center has moved to a virtually tapeless workflow model, complete with nonlinear editing (NLE) and video server playout products configured in a shared storage environment, which includes several Grass Valley M-Series intelligent video digital recorders (iVDR), a NewsQ Pro automated playback system, FeedClip interactive feed capture system and NewsEdit nonlinear editor. Multiple ingest and editing workstations are sharing media and completed projects across a Networked Attached Storage (NAS) array based on serial ATA technology.
Under the supervision of the France 3 technical staff, the significant commitment to Grass Valley equipment and services was based on their desire for an intuitive interface that streamlines operations and minimises the learning curve, and a tightly integrated workflow.
The flexibility of the M-Series iVDR, the extensive features of the NewsQ Pro automation system, and easy integration with their existing Publison audio mixing solutions was also key to the sale.
Thomson will also support France 3 through its Systems Group and Customer Service organization. The company and France 3 have entered into a strategic partnership around its news and server architecture that leverages IT technology, Thomson’s DNPS products and France 3’s technical expertise.
“We are confident that Thomson’s digital news solutions will enhance our news production operations in terms of quality and efficiency,” said Yves Le Bras, head of France 3’s technical team.
“We are very proud that France 3 has chosen to rely on Thomson,” said Marc Valentin, president, Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions. “This success confirms the penetration of our Digital News Production Solutions around the world, which are supporting complex digital upgrade projects deployed for a variety of regional broadcasters and local television stations.”
