S4C SCOOP THREE AWARDS AT PROMAX

NAKED WELSH flesh certainly took the eye of the adjudicators at the world PROMAX awards ceremony in Miami, Florida, as S4C won three silver awards in the USA.
S4C’s sports promotional film grabbed the headlines last year by showing a gallery of sport personalities and S4C presenters in nude poses. The Sport 2000 promotional film won silver in the ‘Best In-house Promo’. Directed by Rhys Evans of S4C’s Marketing Department and co-produced by Luned Whelan and Rhian Evans, it featured a number of Wales’ sport personalities and S4C presenters without a stitch on as they helped to recreate some of the great classical art masterpieces.
Lion Colin Charvis depicted as Atlas with the world on his shoulders, Chris Wyatt struck the famous discus pose, while presenter Amanda Protheroe Thomas recreated a scene form Botticelli’s painting, ‘The Birth of Venus’. Among the other personalities taking part were rugby players Shane Williams and Matt Cardy, cricketers Robert Croft, Matthew Maynard and Steve James, jockey Hywel Davies and presenters Eleri Siôn, Ray Gravell and Wyn Gruffydd.
The other silver awards were for ‘Best Station Branding/Image Campaign’ for ‘Dragon Idents – Mouse/Stapler’ and ‘Best Children's Programme Promotions’ for ‘Nit Nurse’, ‘Planed Plant’, which were produced for S4C by Wordley Productions.
Huw Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, said: “When you consider that TV channels from all over the world were competing for these prestigious awards, S4C’s achievement at this year’s Promax Awards has been considerable. It is gratifying to see the imagination, skill and dedication of all who work on S4C’s on-screen promotions acknowledged internationally. I’m delighted to see their work rewarded.”
The world-wide PROMAX conference, held annually in the United States, is considered the most important convention for promotions and marketing executives in the electronic media industry.
The PROMAX awards are considered the highest possible accolade for promotional producers and graphic designers working the TV and film industry and this year attracted 5,000 entries. (CD)
