More than 200 Avid digital broadcast conversions completed

Avid Technology has announced that Quincy Newspapers (QNI), of Quincy, Illinois, will standardise nine of its 10 news-generating stations on Avid end-to-end nonlinear news production solutions in the coming year – bringing the total number of Avid digital broadcast conversions either underway or completed to more than 200.
With QNI’s standardisation, Avid continues to widen its competitive lead as the provider of choice for end-to-end production solutions for small-, medium-, and large-market broadcasters.
“We’ve taken the first step in one of our most ambitious projects – to bring our news production operations into the digital world,” said Kirk Winkler, director of News at QNI. “Transitioning nine stations is a huge undertaking, and we partnered with Avid because its industry-proven solutions have a track record of success for large operations and smaller-market broadcasters like QNI. By choosing Avid, we’ll increase the collaborative efficiencies between our stations. We’re excited to be recognised as moving Avid’s user base beyond the 200 mark, and we look forward to implementing these powerful solutions in the months ahead.”
David Schleifer, director of Avid Broadcast and Workgroups said: “When we introduced Avid Unity for News to the market four years ago, our goal was to revolutionise the newsroom workflow experience – and today, we continue to convert more broadcasters to digital production than all of our competition combined. More importantly, we’ve designed Avid’s broadcast solutions to scale and meet a wide range of needs, so smaller station groups can also take advantage of the efficiencies offered from a tightly integrated end-to-end news production environment. QNI’s investment validates the accessibility and affordability of the end-to-end production pipeline we’re bringing to market.”
“We’re extremely pleased with the rate at which large, medium, and small broadcasters have adopted our end-to-end solutions,” said David Krall, Avid’s president and chief executive officer. “Having sold or installed more than 200 all-digital production environments is a significant milestone for Avid. It demonstrates that the world’s broadcasters are increasingly seeing the value of file-based workflows in media production, and that the market is substantial and ready to convert. It also represents a significant achievement toward Avid’s target of converting approximately 80-100 broadcast facilities to digital production methods in 2004 alone – and we’re on track to meet that goal.”
