Public television takes to Titan
Sundance Digital’s Titan multi-channel automation solution will soon be installed at two more public television stations.
The leading provider of television automation systems has received orders from KCTA - Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) located in St. Paul, MN, and from WNED, the PBS affiliate in Buffalo, NY.
TPT will go on-air from a totally overhauled Master Control with the Sundance Digital Titan automating four playlists, and an Omneon video server. It will also interface with Masstech’s, nearline archive and content management solution, MassExpand.
In addition to Titan, the Sundance configuration will include fully redundant TitanSync, as well as Intelli-Sat Broadcast Record Manager, Intelli-Sat is a versatile tool to facilitate the feed recording process. It offers accurate device control, along with resource management to schedule and capture incoming content.
“Titan’s strong track record with public television networks in addition to its ability to provide essential features and functionality are important factors to us,” said Bruce Jacobs, VP Technology for TPT. “We deal with a lot of individual program streams so a two-way data link is crucial to our operation. The system integrates seamlessly with our traffic application.” The station is one of the most watched PBS affiliates in the nation, reaching over two million households in the greater Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota region.
WNED, a border station serving the Buffalo, NY area as well as southern Ontario, Canada, will also take delivery of a large-scale Titan system for the station’s digital upgrade. Installation is scheduled for early Q4 and also includes TitanSync for redundancy and Intelli-Sat.
According to Jonathan Herrington, VP of Engineering & Technology, the decision to go with Titan came after careful consideration and evaluation of the available offerings. “We needed an automation system that would keep up with technology and position us for future growth”, Herrington said. WNED’s Titan configuration will manage five on-air channels.
