Hadlow named as Controller of BBC Four
BBC Director of Television Jana Bennett has announced the appointment of Janice Hadlow as the new Controller of BBC Four.
Currently Head of Specialist Factual at Channel 4 Television, Hadlow takes over from Roly Keating who takes up his role as BBC Two Controller this month.
Commenting on the appointment, Jana Bennett said: "Since its launch just over two years ago, BBC Four has brought something fresh and distinctive to multi-channel audiences through its rich mix of award-winning programmes.
"Janice's exceptional experience, gained from her Channel 4 post and previous BBC roles, make her the perfect candidate to take the channel into the next phase of its development and growth.
"Her passion for factual programming is evident from the breadth of hugely ambitious and successful programmes that she has commissioned as Head of Channel 4's Specialist Factual department - including David Starkey's Six Wives, The 1940s House, Operatunity and Emmy award-winning The Death Of Klinghoffer.
"Janice has the ability to spot trends and programmes that can reach new audiences, and which challenge, question and surprise - exactly the right qualities needed for BBC Four."
Janice Hadlow said: "I'm extremely honoured to be taking up the role of Controller for BBC Four.
"It's a channel that I admire enormously for its wealth of unique programmes that really make it stand out in the digital universe - a universe that is expanding by the day.
"I've worked with Roly before and really respect what he has done with the channel, so I'm looking forward to working alongside him again as BBC Two and BBC Four collaborate on co-commissioning programmes and developing seasons like the current opera season."
Janice Hadlow was appointed Head of Specialist Factual at Channel 4 Television in 2002 - one of the largest commissioning departments at Channel 4.
Joining the BBC as a production trainee in 1986, Hadlow worked as a Radio 4 producer and series Editor, before taking over as Deputy Head of the BBC's Music and Arts department as well as Head, Late Show Productions from 1993 to 1995. She was then appointed Joint Head of the BBC's History department.
In 1999, she was appointed Head of History, Art and Religion at Channel 4 prior to being appointed Head of Specialist Factual in 2002.
