NOA To Attend FIAT/IFTA Conference
NOA GmbH is gearing up to attend this year's FIAT/IFTA Conference in Cape Town, October 4–6.
The October gathering, which sports the theme "Archives Out of the Box", marks FIAT's first in person event in almost three years and will bring the world of media archiving professionals together under one roof.
Under the theme, organizers intend to spotlight the evolution of the archivist’s task and the important role they play in the structure of media organizations.
"With this topic, we don't just literally mean the travelling of archive material outside of the archive space, but also, in the figurative sense, the liberation from clichés such as 'old' and 'irrelevant', said the organizers. "We even refer to the emancipation of the archivist, who has become an important partner in the decision-making process of media organizations, or — in the case of audiovisual archives outside broadcasting – an appreciated curator of online content on platforms of all kinds. It’s time to celebrate that new role, but also to discuss, explore and conquer the new possibilities that it brings."
For NOA this is a fundamental area of discussion and along with this transformation comes the inevitable technical aspects that accompany and facilitate this change. The company is continuously educating its industry peers about the best ways to approach the future of archiving and to facilitate — through its advanced solutions — media houses in the process of in-house digitization with quality vs. having to outsource to agencies to gain time but compromise on quality.
As a "Gold Sponsor" of FIAT/IFTA 2022, NOA will be on hand during the entirety of the conference to share its expertise in archiving technology with fellow participants.
In addition, on Oct. 5 at 4pm, NOA CEO Christophe Kummer will give a presentation on managing multiformat digitization and on how to best manage the large-scale digitization process.
"In-house digitization offers many advantages, including optimization of resources and controlling the pace," explained NOA CEO Christophe Kummer. "NOA's job is to inform and educate the industry that they can take a ‘Yes, I can do it myself’ approach with the help of our technology."
With more than 250 members, FIAT/IFTA's mission is to encourage cooperation among radio and television archives, multimedia and audiovisual archives and libraries, and all those engaged in the preservation and exploitation of moving image and recorded sound materials and associated documentation.
Founded in 1977, the organization describes itself as a "forum for exchange of knowledge and experience between its members, to promote the study of any topic relevant to the development and valorization of audiovisual archives and to establish international standards on key issues regarding all aspects of audiovisual media management".
