BBC Studios Archives With Front Porch Digital

BBC Studios and Post Production's Digital Media Services business is installing Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive CSM and DIVAdirector media asset management (MAM) systems.

The systems will enable the Digital Media Services team to provide long-term storage for clients' assets, while also providing existing services such as film and tape digitisation, digital image restoration and Digital Production Partnership (DPP) delivery.
The DIVArchive and DIVAdirector systems store or fully or partially restore the DPP asset and check the integrity of any asset via checksum calculation and tracking. The aim of the installation is to hasten the workflow when content is being ingested for long-term archiving. This eliminates the need to transfer or deliver large amounts of data to clients. The Digital Media Services business also offers migration to new formats as part of its services.
DIVAdirector will also enable the Digital Media Services team to create a metadata database as a future resource. The investment fits with the company's business model, providing the ability to scale up, from smaller projects involving a few film or tape assets, to the digitisation of hundreds of thousands of tapes or full restoration of hundreds of hours of film.
