WALES AWAITS THE ARRIVAL OF ‘ANIMATION DAY’

SOME of the world’s leading experts in 2D and 3D computer animation will be gathered in South Wales later this year for a one-day event at the University of Wales, Swansea.
Swansea Animation Day is part of Swansea Bay Industry Week – sponsored by Business Connect Wales – and will take place at the Taliesin Theatre on November 20 2001.
The event will feature a series of talks, demonstrations and interactive sessions aimed at businesses, potential students and anyone with an interest in the field.
Top billing goes to Shelley Page whose company, Dreamworks, are undoubtedly one of the world leaders in animated feature films. Their most recent animated creation – SHREK – grossed over $250 million at the US box office and remains in the UK Top Ten nearly three months after its release. During her presentation, Ms Page will unearth some of the behind-the-scenes secrets of the filming of SHREK.
Other keynote speakers include Roger Fickling of Ocean Digital Pictures, Robin Lyons of Siriol Productions, Max Tyrie, senior 3D animator at The FrameStore – creators of the BBC TV series ‘Walking with Dinosoars’ series – and Will Byles of Aardman Animation, best known for their characters Wallace & Gromit. There are also demonstrations of Alias | Wavefront’s market leading range of 3D modelling, rendering and animation software, Maya.
