VICON STRIPS ROBBIE WILLIAMS ON VIDEO

The Vicon system is renowned for the quality of the data it produces, capturing at a resolution up to 1 million pixels.
The system was memorably used when rock star Robbie Williams revealed all and more in a dramatic striptease for his ‘Rock DJ’ single and video.
With help from the Vicon 8 motion capture rig at Audiomotion, Williams is seen to remove not only all his clothes, but skin, flesh, and organs too.
For CGI house Clear, the challenge was to create a seamless blend between the artist and his digital double, retaining the Williams distinctive dance style accurately in the computer-animated content. Preferring motion-capture to conventional animation, Clear chose Banbury-based Audiomotion, and were able to take advantage of the studio’s Vicon MCAM high-definition cameras. MCAM supports data capture at up to 120 frames per second for extremely accurate rendition of fast-moving performances.
For the shoot, Audiomotion relocated the Vicon system to Bray Studios in Berkshire, setting up in less than two hours. Williams danced in front of a nine camera rig, and the entire performance was captured inside an hour in just five takes.
AudioMotion is Europe’s largest and most advanced motion capture studio. Based in Banbury, Oxfordshire, the studio has established an excellent track record working on prestigious and well-known projects such as the latest Lara Croft commercial for Sega and the blockbuster Ridley Scott epic ‘Gladiator’.
