GAME DEVELOPERS ADOPT MOTION

OXFORD based Vicon Motion Systems have announced that five of the world’s largest game developers have acquired Vicon 8, a production-proven motion capture system used in feature films including ‘Gladiator,’ ‘Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace,’ ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Titanic.’
In the past year, Konami, Midway Games, Namco, Rare and Links DigiWorks replaced their existing motion capture equipment with Vicon 8 systems.
Jeff Eith, Producer and Mocap Director, Midway Games, said: “We temporarily installed both a competing system and the Vicon 8 system in our studio for side by side evaluation. After demonstrations by each team and subsequent production tests completed by our staff, the decision to install the Vicon systems was unanimous.”
Brian Nilles, Vicon’s CEO, said: “It is a real credit to the Vicon development team to have produced a system which has attracted the most prestigious customers worldwide. Further credit must be given to the team as we find customers who have invested in competitive technology and then found sufficient justification to completely replace such a vital part of their pipeline with a Vicon 8 system. We look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the most demanding studios in the world.”
Vicon Motion Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxford Metrics. For over 15 years Oxford Metrics. have been providing professionals with the latest tools to accurately capture the subtleties of motion.
