RAI opts for IDX Endura power systems

RAI, the Italian state broadcaster, has modernised many of its batteries, chargers and camera mounts with equipment from IDX Technology’s Endura range, supplied by Video Progetti.
This is to allow the continued use of existing serviceable equipment while also moving to new battery systems.
A significant part of the change is the move towards standardisation of V-mounts for cameras and batteries. This has been achieved with many cameras having new V-mount plates and V-mount boxes to make use of existing NiCd NP batteries. At the same time, RAI is moving to Lithium-ion chemistry with Endura E-80 82Wh V-mount batteries that can dock to extend or double run times. With a fully compatible mounting system all batteries, both E-80 and NP/NiCd can operate on the many cameras now fitted with V-mounts.
Enabling a soft transition from NP/NiCd to V-mount/Li-ion was crucial to the order. As a part of this IDX has supplied a special charger. A bespoke design for RAI, the VL-4R 4-channel sequential charger (with two channels simultaneous) is able to fulfil a dual role charging both the NP NiCd and E-80 batteries.
