KATE WINSLET PROMO HELMED BY THE MILL

MILL Lab's Paul Donnellon is the director behind Kate Winslet's promo for debut single 'What If'.
The single is being released on November 26 to coincide with the release of the animated feature film, 'Christmas Carol : The Movie'. Winslet provides the voice for the lead female character Belle. Mill Lab is the interactive arm of Oscar winning visual effects facility The Mill.
The one-day shoot took place in an old house near London's Brick Lane. The location was carefully styled using authentic props, to give it a classical Dickens feel, in theme with the animated feature. As well as shooting on film, a steady cam was used for the moving action shots. The video combines live action shots featuring a singing Kate Winslet with clips from the animated feature. Connecting the animation with the live action is a ghost-like maid based around the film¹s character Belle, who is travelling through the house. The ghostly maid was shot separately and The Mill's Jeff Robinson worked in Avid's DS to superimpose and soften the character into the shots as well as adding light passes, to give her a real glow. Jeff also worked on number of other key shots including the letter writing scene. This was filmed in front of a green screen, with a rod used in place of the pen and each frame was animated to create the effect of the writing.
The Mill’s telecine operator Marcus Timpson graded the promo, working on creating the overall moody dark look in Spirit.
