BIGGAM TO BE REAPPOINTED ITC CHAIR

SIR Robin Biggam is to be re-appointed as Chair of the Independent Television Commission (ITC) when his current term ends on December 31, 2001.
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said: “With the proposed changes to the regulatory structures for broadcasting set out in ‘A New Future for Communications,’ it is important that we retain the expertise that Sir Robin will continue to give. Throughout this period of change the Commission must continue its very important role as regulator and guardian of standards. During his Chairmanship of the ITC Sir Robin has received the widespread respect of the broadcasting industry. His experience, combined with this respect, will be of immense value to me and the Department in the run up to the creation of OFCOM.”
Sir Robin Biggam has been Chair of the ITC since January 1997. Before that he was Chairman of BICC plc having worked previously with ICI and ICL. He is a Non-Executive Director of British Aerospace, and Deputy Chairman of British Energy. (CD)
