Sir David Frost to chair News World Dublin's keynote debate
Sir David Frost is to chair the keynote debate at News World, to be held in Dublin on November 19-21.
Sir David, one of the world's most eminent and accomplished political interviewers, who rose to fame on both sides of the Atlantic as a satirist and hard hitting topical interviewer, hosts the influential 'Breakfast with Frost' political magazine on BBC One. Over 40 years he has interviewed almost every major political figure in the world including, most memorably, his revealing, in-depth discussions with disgraced US president Richard Nixon.
Sir David will preside over the 'Deadline Debate', inviting leading politicians, journalists and analysts to discuss the ever-widening gap between Government and the media, and the effect their distrust of each other has on the democratic process.
Sir David said: "News World is a very important event in the news industry calendar, and I have worked with many of the people most closely involved with it, including its executive producer, Tim Orchard. I was delighted when he invited me to take part in this year's event, especially as the Deadline Debate gets to the very heart of the worrying disconnection between the three great estates of journalism, politics and the people."
Tim Orchard added: "Sir David is among the most famous and respected of political interviewers, and nobody else has his track record for interviewing so many top politicians over so many years. The insights he brings to the Deadline Debate will be invaluable."
The Deadline Debate will be a key session in the three-day conference. Other major debates will consider the unfolding drama over Iraq, the controversial issue of journalists giving evidence in war crimes tribunals and the financial media's failure to predict the scandals of Enron and Worldcom.
Perhaps most importantly for the production and equipment sectors, technology will take centre stage at News World Dublin, with a series of main debates and workshops designed to bring the people who make newsgathering equipment together with its users, to discuss the challenges that face them all.
News World was first held in 1995 in Berlin and has run annually since then. This year's event takes place in Dublin, Ireland, at the Burlington Hotel from November 19-20.
Registration for News World Dublin is available at www.newsworld.org and includes access to all sessions, breakfast and lunch, the opening and closing receptions.
