BBC Broadcast creates trails for six nations rugby campaign
BBC Broadcast, one of the commercial arms of the BBC, has created the trails for the six nations rugby campaign that launched this week on BBC One.
A trail for each nation runs in all nations over the course of the five-week tournament. The trails are about the skill that is involved in playing rugby, featuring one body part or rugby skill for each player.
World Cup rugby stars Matt Dawson, Brian O'Driscoll, Colin Charvis and Chris Paterson feature in the BBC's television marketing trails to promote its Six Nations coverage.
The tournament begins on 14 February and all the games are exclusive to BBC and will be shown live.
The idea for the trails followed audience research commissioned by the BBC into what has attracted the new fan base to the sport following the World Cup. The research found that fans were impressed with the range of skills that rugby encompasses, including passing, kicking, tackling and side stepping. These skills are the focus of the trails.
The trails show a scenario of what could happen if an amateur player could buy a body part or skill of one of the Six Nations players. Each trail features a cameo of the player or his team mate.
Andy Bryant, Director of Creative Services, BBC Broadcast, said: “BBC Broadcast had a great time working with these players and were lucky to have access to them. These trails promote all the home nation teams in Six Nations and will let viewers know they can see them all live on the BBC.”
