Doremi and JL Cooper partner for key/fill solution

A partnership between Doremi Technologies and JL Cooper has produced a powerful server and control combination.
This places the considerable power of the Doremi MCS multi-channel server directly into the hands of the production team. Among the many capabilities for multi-channel record, cueing and replay, the synchronized replays required for both fill and key video are resolved to a single button push.
The Doremi MCS is a highly capable four-channel broadcast video server that offers several record (r) and play (p) configurations. For the key and fill application the MCS-2r2p can supply two video channels to provide 4:2:2:4, fill and key, while MPEG-2 compression at up to 50Mbit/sec per channel ensures availability of the required high quality signals needed for convincing keyed results. Another ‘must’ is keeping the fill and key in sync – an area where Doremi servers have an established track record.
The JL Cooper panel used for the key/fill application is the MCS-ClipShot - the latest addition to the MCS-3000 Series of the Media Command Station product family. It is a tactile switch palette with 40 multi-coloured buttons each with 24 x 32 LCD displays, 20 lit buttons and a 2 x 40 backlit LCD display. The LCD buttons can show user-defined text and graphics for easy and clarity of all operations. In the key/fill application a single button can run the key and fill channels together.
Using the panel the typical workflow involves fill and key signals being recorded to the MCS server, often separately from tapes. With these carrying the same timecode they are automatically cued and run together from one button. The panel control is flexible to allow for ‘fill-only’ and ‘fill-and-key’ replays as required.
Patrick Zucchetta, Managing Director of Doremi Technologies, said: “Many of our customers want solutions – not just components that might work together. We have had a very good customer reaction to this server/controller combination and it’s already been backed up by orders. We are always pleased to make new whole systems work because it’s what the customers want and they soon turn into new orders.”
