Corinthian Television names Sony as technology partner

Corinthian Television has chosen Sony as its technology partner for its transmission facility and forthcoming projects in Chiswick Park.
"We chose Sony because the systems integrations division has a very well established and well developed reputation for complex projects," said Mike Silverman, Chief Executive Officer, Corinthian Television. "It has an independent systems business, but still has access to its excellent broadcast products."
For the original installation at Chiswick Park, Corinthian Television acted as system integrator as well as service provider and it has enabled them to be involved in every part of the specification, commissioning and integration.
Now that the project has reached phase two, the expansion of the facility and roll out of new channels and further services, Corinthian has decided to delegate this role to a third party systems integrator, Sony. It allows Corinthian to focus on its primary responsibilities as the operational service provider for its client at Chiswick Park, which demands a service level achievement of 99.99%.
Additionally, the intricate nature of the operation, large number of suppliers and the complex integration issues require a serious amount of project management. This is a distraction from the Corinthian core business given that plans are in place to expand by 30 channels over the next two years.
Silverman added: "Sony has strategic alliances already in place with other key vendors and has well proven project management and engineering skills. The company will also provide prime support and training as part of the offering covering its own and third party products. This will be carried out by Sony's in-house technical experts."
Sony is willing and able to operate in a collaborative way in developing and implementing cost effective solutions quickly and effectively to meet the business needs of Corinthian's clients.
Niels Thomas, Sony General Manager, Media said: We are proud and delighted to be involved in this initiative to provide a range of services and offerings to Corinthian. The partnership of Corinthian Television and Sony represents the very best in innovation and forward thinking, led by a first-class team of people.”
Corinthian sees value in having a manufacturer vendor also acting as a systems integrator rather than a pure systems integrator because it has a vested interest through its own products already and potentially on site. In the case of Sony these include Petasites, Digi Betas, cameras and monitors.
Other advantages for choosing Sony include its ability to be able to provide back ups in the event of any technical issues including significant resources in the UK not too far away from to Chiswick Park.
