New cinema to open at University College Dublin

The Film Studies department of University College Dublin (UCD) have announced that the O'Kane Centre for Film Studies, a state-of-the-art 38-seat cinema, is to be officially opened on Friday January 9 at 3.30pm in O'Reilly Hall, Belfield, Dublin.
A donation from Frank O'Kane, Chairman and Managing Director of the Mercury Engineering Group, has funded the conversion of the Observatory, a protected structure on the Belfield campus, into a 38-seater dedicated film screening room for students of Film Studies.
The conversion of the Observatory has involved the total refurbishment of the interior into a screening room, incorporating tiered seating, a full-width THX cinema screen, projection facilities and full Dolby surround sound.
Invited guests to the launch of the O'Kane Centre will include many contributors to the Irish film industry.
UCD President Dr Hugh Brady, Dr Frank O'Kane and filmmaker Jim Sheridan, will address the guests.
