TSL construct playout system for Orbit

Television Systems Limited (TSL), UK-based independent broadcast systems integrator and manufacturer, have completed the construction of a new playout system for Rome-based multi-channel operator Orbit.
Orbit have confirmed that the system is now in use, beaming services via satellite across the Middle East and North Africa.
TSL were involved from the design stage upwards in what was a significant contract win for the respected systems integrator. As well as supplying technical expertise and design know-how, TSL's audio monitoring and UMD products formed a key part of the contract.
Equipment decisions were split between the pay-TV operator and TSL.
The new playout automation system controls all the operations including programme ingest from VTR, caching from LMS or Flexicart to server, playout from the server, master control and effects, closed caption subtitling, voice-over and multiple languages. This new system should support both revenue growth through increased reliability as well as reducing the reliance on operator intervention.
Orbit have launched the new DVB services with 12 channels, and further expansion has been built in to the system with capacity for up to 36 channels provided.
The complete system was pre-built and tested by TSL at their premises in the UK prior to shipping and another full test was then performed after installation on site in Rome.
