TSL Introduces Intelligent Mains Distribution Units With System-Wide Current Sensing Feature

TSL has announced two new additions to its range of intelligent 'Power Manager' Mains Distribution Units (MDUs) which constantly measure current, power, and power factor (the ratio of actual to apparent power) thereby providing total visibility of system's power usage and the ability to manage its power consumption from a single location, ideal for economic, environmental and emergency reasons.
Specifically, the new 'MDU12-PMI' is designed to offer the total flexibility required by broadcast operations by including a sophisticated 'Current Sensing' feature, which monitors the total current consumption, power factors and operating temperatures of all rack-mounted equipment - or for individual outlets - providing clear warnings if variables rise above, or fall below, fully programmable limits.
Another highlight of the MDU12-PMI is that its outputs can be switched remotely, thereby achieving the flexibility, efficiency and peace-of-mind so desirable for an unmanned operation. Moreover, its recovery capabilities mean that in the event of a power cut (or in cases of alternate shift demands), the MDU12-PMI's sequential restart sequence automates the delicate job of powering up a system in a pre-determined and carefully controlled fashion.
A separate MDU unit, targeted primarily at monitoring operations, is the 'MDU-12PAI' which provides all of the functionality of the PMI version, but without its relay switching capabilities. All units can be administered with the Power Manager Graphical User Interface (GUI) providing control for the input and output locations, SNMP alarms, and the 16 General Purpose Interfaces (GPIs).
In addition to the two new MDU's, TSL's complete Power Manager range includes: MDU-12PA - as the new MDU-PAI but without the current and power factor monitoring; MDU-14CO - two auto changeover inputs and 14-way outputs for critical equipment operation; MDU-14B - power standard unit 14-way mains distribution with 16A magnetic, resettable over-current protection.
TSL Professional Products Group General Manager, Chris Exelby, said: "The ability to remotely operate and control power consumption levels, coupled with the comprehensive error monitoring, has considerable economic advantages, as well as environmental ones.
"I'm extremely proud of the work our team has done to develop and bring to market these new MDUs because I know they are not just of the highest quality, but of real and demonstrable benefit to the financial and environmental bottom lines of broadcasters worldwide."
