RTÉ SECURES RIGHTS TO SCREEN OSCARS
IRISH State broadcaster, RTÉ Television, have secured the broadcasting rights to screen the event in Ireland for the 74th, 75th and 76th Academy Awards.
Dermot Horan, head of broadcast and acquisitions, RTÉ, and Tom Toumazis, senior vice president and managing director of distributors Buena Vista International Television (BVI-TV), made the announcement.
Horan said: “RTE have a policy of broadcasting the very best Hollywood movies, and as such, we are delighted to be able to show Irish viewers one of the most important events in the film industry's calendar”.
Toumazis added: “These are the world’s most prestigious film awards and have a unique appeal to people all over the world. It fits well into our distribution portfolio and we are pleased to be able to work with broadcasters including RTÉ to ensure viewers can enjoy the suspense and drama of the evening in the comfort of their own homes.”
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
