New Investigative Series Commissioned For Channel 4
A new investigative and consumer-related series has been commissioned for Channel 4.
The shows include a new two-part series Secrets Of Our Favourite Foods (working title) and a new pilot Be Your Own Doctor, as well as recommissions for Supershoppers and Tricks Of The Restaurant Trade.
Secrets Of Our Favourite Foods looks at some of Britain's best-known brands and revealing the stories behind the dishes that defined meal times. Chef Simon Rimmer will examine Angel Delight to Smash, Lyons Maid ice cream to Babycham, examining what was in them, how they were sold to the public and why the public loved them. The 2 x 60' series is a new commission from Firecrest Films.
Be Your Own Doctor has been commissioned as a pilot from Love Productions and explores the new ways we approach keeping healthy. The show will help to navigate a 'health-mad' world where we are overloaded with information. It will be hosted by Kate Quilton and Dr Tamal Ray.
Tricks Of The Restaurant Trade has been recommissioned for a new four-part series. Presented by Simon Rimmer and Kate Quilton, plus reporter Adam Pearson, the series will lift the lid on the things consumers should be aware of when they eat out. It'll try to find out how customers can ensure they get the best quality food at the best price and reveals some of the techniques that restaurants use to make customers spend more.
Lastly, Supershoppers has been recommissioned for a new six-part series, in addition to a 60' Christmas special. From Firecrest Films, the consumer programme will combine features and investigative journalism. The Supershoppers will look at retailing, marketing, branding, and how and why we buy what we buy; from clothes to food to travel, what goes in to them and how they are sold to us. It will be presented by Anna Richardson and Andi Osho.
Dorothy Byrne, Commissioning Editor, said: "All four of these series concepts bring together the best of populist investigative journalism and features programmes which reflect people's everyday lives."
