Indiegogo Campaign Launched For Airline Food Movie

News Image
A new documentary aims to pull back the curtain on how airlines source, prepare and deliver meals to passengers at 35,000 feet.

The Inflight Food Trip has been developed by Nik Loukas, creator of InFlightFeed.com. For the full-length feature, Loukas has secured agreements to go behind-the-scenes with some of the world's largest airlines and in-flight caterers. The documentary aims to show how airlines develop menus in line with modern gastronomic trends, how they train their in-flight chefs, and how, occasionally, they manage to convince travellers to pay more for an enhanced meal experience.

The docu will also explore the history of airline food – dating back to 1919.

Commenting on the project, Loukas said: "Our purpose is to tell stories and each airline we feature has a unique perspective and tale to tell behind how they produce passenger meals. We want to reveal the behind-the-scenes pressure and precision of this overlooked industry that's key to the modern air travel experience. The 'stars' of our film will be not just the airlines, but also cabin crews, inflight caterers, and the general public."

Loukas will work alongside Producer and Director James Mellor, of Rainbow Trout Films, for the documentary. Mellor added: "I've been passionate about films and filmmaking all my life, an I've pushed my career in that direction. I love Niks' passion for airline food and everything to do with it and I'm looking forward to sharing that journey with him as we make this feature documentary. My aim is to both inform and entertain our audience, whom I hope will come away with a fresh perspective on the world of inflight food."

Loukas is currently crowdfunding the film via an Indiegogo campaign with a goal of €9,800. To date, the pair have raised just over €1,400. Having already travelled to Riga and Tokyo to film segments with Air Baltic and Scandinavian Airlines, Loukas and Mellor hope to continue their filming across Europe later this year.

The deadline for pledged donations is 2 September, 2016.

Filming for The Inflight Food Trip is scheduled to commence in November 2016 and set to complete in February 2017.
