Nic Knowland chooses Hummingbird for US thriller
Following extensive field trials, Director of Photography Nic Knowland opted for Hummingbirds (sunlight viewable LCD monitors) on his latest shoot, 'Red Light Runners.'
Starring Michael Madsen as Killian, Harvey Keitel, Crispin Glover and Rich Hall Red Light Runners is a fast moving action thriller about a daring attempt to liberate an ancient artefact from the British Museum in London.
Killian comes to London to recruit his team but is soon pursued by enforcement agents. The tension builds to a climax with a thrilling shoot out and car pursuit across London before the final twist.
Knowland said: “Red Light Runners has a lot of fast moving location shots so I knew I would need to concentrate hard on the action. I find it very restrictive having to dive under a blanket or retire to a tent every time I need to look at a monitor. It really gets in the way of the work flow.
"I was looking around for a quicker, more efficient way of reviewing scenes when I discovered the Hummingbirds. I was amazed at the quality and clarity of these monitors when used if full sunlight. Nothing I have seen so far comes anywhere close to the performance of the Hummingbirds”.
Knowland finally settled for a 6.4” hand held Hummingbird and a 15” Rugged Hummingbird: "I felt that with this combination I would be pretty much covered for any eventuality. It was an extra bonus to find that IMP can provide Hummingbirds with a battery adapter shoe, so now I can use my existing batteries”.
