Creative Skillset Launches Free Online Film Production Course
A new free online course has been launched by Creative Skillset in partnership with the Production Guild of Great Britain.
The course was officially unveiled yesterday, 01 February.
The three-week 'Film Production: Behind The Scenes of Feature Filmmaking' course will will be led by industry legends – including assistant directors, producers, production managers and special FX supervisors with major film and TV credits (The Martian, Gravity, Jayne Eyre, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia!, The Frankenstein Chronicles, Jekyll & Hyde) and will provide an insight into the inner workings of the movie industry.
Anyone with a more specific interest in working in the film industry will gain an understanding of entry-level jobs and potential career progression pathways, as well as hear hints and tips for how to get on in the industry.
In addition, participants will also get practical tips from educator Lesley Lipscombe and industry veteran film producer Paul Sarony (The Crow, Hideous Kinky, Welcome to Sarajevo, Mrs Brown).
Participants will:
• Pick up hints and tips for how to get on in the industry
• Understand entry-level jobs and potential career pathways
• Learn how different departments interact and work together
• Discover how individual job roles fit into the wider crew
• Get to grips with industry jargon and etiquette
Lesley Lipscombe, Training and Development Manager at the Production Guild said: "We hope this course will be of interest to anyone wanting to understand more about the ins and outs of film production and what goes into getting a film onto the big screen. Filmmaking is a competitive business and we hope the hints, tips and practical guidance we have for starting out as a runner will help those wanting get into the industry."
This course is one of eight developed for FutureLearn following a £200,000 investment from Creative Skillset.
