Omneon Video Networks to supply media servers for BBC Broadcast

Omneon Video Networks, the leading provider in cost-effective and flexible networked media servers, today announced that its Media Server Systems have been selected for use in the Broadcast Centre, the new headquarters of BBC Broadcast.
The Broadcast Centre is due to open for business on October 6, 2003. The new Omneon systems were chosen by systems integrator Television Systems Limited (TSL) because of their ability to provide the flexibility and scalability necessary to meet current and future needs at the Broadcast Centre. Omneon’s Media Server Systems are based on a modular architecture consisting of three core hardware components – the storage, server, and I/O functions – that can be mixed and matched, upgraded, and expanded as necessary, allowing users to configure systems to exact requirements and then upgrade easily as needed.

The Broadcast Centre will house playout, channel management, and creative teams for international channels BBC World, BBC Prime, BBC Food, and the BBC’s public service channels. In addition the Broadcast Centre will be open for business for other broadcasters.
