John Edwards Passes Away, Aged 66

It is with great sadness to announce John Edwards, one of the leading figures of the Soho Television Post Production industry, has died aged 66. He passed away on Friday, 3 July.

John Edwards came from the Forest of Dean and studied Social Sciences and Business at the University of Kent. He started in the creative media industry, initially working for Haymarket Publishers of Campaign and then in 1973 he began working for The Creative Handbook based in London, New York and Amsterdam.

John entered the Post Production industry as Head of Post Production 1979 at Trilion, which had been formed by Barry Sheffield and was, at that time, the leading TV Facility company in Soho with Post, Studios and Outside Broadcast.

With the arrival of Channel 4 in 1982, the independent Post Production industry began to flourish and John moved to Thorn EMI Television who were developing productions for the independent television market and the growing video market.

In 1986, John became Managing Director of Television Post House Ravensdale, later known as London Post in Dean Street and was its Managing Director for over eight years. In that time he worked with award-winning editor Bill Ogden and graphics artist Gus Henry, mainly working on independent television programmes for Channel 4, pop promos and commercials.

He subsequently worked for Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising, running their television company Triangle. He then went on to work with Barnes Trust Media as Managing Director of High End post company The House, and he was also Barnes Trust Media Group Head of Post Production which included Teddington Studios and Dean Street Post.

Latterly since 2008 he was the Managing Director of Soho Media Finance assisting Post Houses with finance and business solutions.

He spent 35 years in an industry he loved and was admired by the people he worked with he had many friends.

He leaves wife Deirdre, son Jamie and daughter Rebecca, plus his grandchildren.

He had recently moved back down to the Forest of Dean.

His funeral will be held on 23 July.
