Custom Consoles win major Channel 4 contract

Channel 4 Television has chosen Custom Consoles to supply a broadcast master control room desk for its headquarters in London's Westminster.
Spanning nearly five metres, the desk is configured for single or dual person operation. The desk is built in 19-inch sections with full rear access and alternate-section front access. It comprises a broad central unit housing a touchscreen control system for the network's routing and device control. The left-hand wing is a general monitoring position for incoming line supervision and satellite receiver alignment. Right of centre, an additional monitoring position is linked at 90 degrees. This is designed to allow easy expansion if needed.
Robert Luggar, Manager of Engineering Projects at Channel 4, comments: "This was a big order so it went out to a couple of potential suppliers; Custom Consoles came in with the best proposal and the best price. I have dealt with Custom Consoles before and have been happy with the service we get from them. The new desk was built to Channel 4 specification with our normal maple finish and Linoleum worksurfaces. The legs are fixed box sections which we prefer here and which work very well, providing cable access more easily than traditional steel legs."
Custom Consoles also supplied a matching floor-to-ceiling rack with wood and glass soundproofing to house PCs, plus a broad horizontal worksurface.
Channel 4's MCR operates 24 hours each day, monitoring all incoming and outgoing broadcast signals for Channel 4 itself, E4 and Film 4.
