GB Helicopters Launches Aerial 4K Ultra Telephoto

News Image
Following a successful start to the ownership of their Gyro Stabilized Systems C516 aerial filming platform, GB Helicopters has become a product-launch customer for the new Canon 20x50 Cine Lens.

GB Helicopters current state-of-the-art, cinematic system featuring a Red Epic Dragon sensor will be fully equipped with interchangeable Canon 20x50 4K and 30-300 Lens. This additional ability to take 4K footage to the ultra-telephoto lens range allows a far greater reach for Sport and Natural History filming.

The fully enclosed weather-proof system, gives the ability to change lens options within minutes on the ground, allowing a full range of cinematic shots to be captured with a single unit on the same day, utilising both time and budget to its maximum, whilst delivering the highest quality in resolution and stability available worldwide today.

GB Helicopters Director Will Banks chose the GSS system over other gimbal systems as a solution to interchangeable payloads, whilst maintaining the use of factory balanced units, therefore always guaranteeing interchangeability on a rapid timescale; perfect when it comes to changing specification on location.

A 16” gimbal case, constructed using the latest carbon fibre technologies means the C516 offers the lightest, most compact system of its type. This reduced weight in comparison to alternative 4K gimbal solutions means they can provide the highest performance on-task for helicopter aerial filming and maintain aircraft operating limitations, maximising payload and endurance in the aircraft; based on equipment, pilot, director and three hours worth of fuel.

GB Helicopters owns and operates an all-weather Air Operators Certificate, which allows the legal carriage of passengers on-task, as well as the ability to transit from A-B in inclement weathers; which prevents any of the unforeseen issues of helicopters being stuck in different locations. This Charter Certificate is valid throughout the UK and northern Europe, enabling a wide operating area of interest.

As well as recording 4k R3D files direct to the RedEpic Dragon, the director will have the ability to watch the filming sequence unfold from within the aircraft cabin on an Atomos Shogun Recorder. This recorder also allows instant playback of clips to ensure that vital sequence has been captured. GB Helicopters can also offer the ability to downlink live images to ensure any additional viewing requirement can be met on the ground, while at the same time maintaining radio links with the aircraft.

For stabilised footage requirements further afield, the entire system is modularised to swiftly breakdown and packed into five cases, all qualifying under excess baggage, making it easier to be flown to its destination with an operator and avoid lengthy delays associated with freighting equipment.

The C516 can be mounted to multiple types of aircraft, along with its ability to mount to vehicles and marine vessels, making it a unit for all occasions.

With a 1.5 hour rigging time, this noticeably quick installation also aids productions with limited time frames and multiple locations.
